Love Letter

by Luke Vertz

Have you ever gotten a love letter before? You may be trying to think if a text message counts or you may not come up with anything. However, the answer for you, me, and everyone else is yes. You have received a love letter, directly from your Creator. We call this letter the Bible. It is filled with so much good stuff, yet the sad thing is how few of us actually take the time to read it.

One sunny afternoon, at the ripe old age of 8, I received my first love letter. I was straight up chillin' with my homies on the playground knocking out pull ups and was about to start on the bench press when a girl walked up to us. She said, “Zoe wanted me to give you this” and extended a folded up piece of paper with hearts all over it to me. I looked past the girl’s shoulder to see Zoe and her friends giggling and trying to hide behind a tree after they saw me look their way. I took the note and stuffed it in my pocket to look tough, but secretly, I was giggling inside myself. I had gotten my first love letter from a girl that I had a crush on myself. I went on to read that thing over and over again.

JEREMIAH 31:3

Long ago the Lord said to Israel:
“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.
With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.

PSALM 139:17-18
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
    They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
    you are still with me!

ZEPHANIAH 3:17
For the Lord your God is living among you.
    He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

The key to discovering what Jesus thinks of you is to read what He has given you, the Bible. Just like if your significant other wrote a nice love letter and you are excited to read each and every word, so should be your attitude toward the Bible.

Take some time to spend alone with God today, and read His word. Do it with a joyful heart expecting God to speak to you and you will walk away feeling refreshed and loved.

Be blessed today!
