Things change. People change. Relationships change. Change is just a regular part of life. Our spiritual passion is something that SHOULD change in a positive direction. But what should you do when things you feel like you have stalled out? Lost your passion? Lost your desire?
Chances are, most of you have been in some sort of relationship. Possibly even with a girl or boy of the opposite gender! I dated my wonderful wife for 5 years before we married. The day I met her, I barely knew her. After a few years, I felt like I knew her completely! Yet, as the years go by, I learn more and more about her every single day. I grow into a deeper and deeper relationship with her.
When you first became a Christian, you began your relationship with Christ. You barely knew Him. As time has gone by, you probably felt like you and God were “ride or die”, best buds, BFF, or even BAE. But for some reason, you may not feel that way anymore. You may feel distant from Him. You may even feel burned out.
READ MATTHEW 11:28-30
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
When people say that they are burned out from church, it always confuses and frustrates me. Sure you can get burned out from activities at church (just as you can become burned out from any activity), but you can NEVER become burned out from having a relationship with Christ, where in fact, it does the opposite. The scripture from Matthew states, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” Jesus doesn’t burn us out, but he prevents it from happening! Next time you feel a lack of passion, or like you are far from God, or maybe even burned out. REACH for Christ. You will find rest, you will grow closer, and your relationship will become deeper.
