I'M COMING OVER WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT

By Jessica Meador

On Saturday August 17, 2013 I was scheduled to work with Nikki Hixson. That day, I saw something in her that I didn’t have, and it looked real. I started asking her questions about Jesus, and she invited me to a bible study that following Monday. That is when I heard what Jesus did for me, and for the first time in my life I felt loved. That Monday August 19, 2013 I gave my life to Christ. Before I was saved I looked to drugs, alcohol, and relationships for my satisfaction. I longed for something real.

Because I am made new (2 Corinthians 5:17) I no longer desired my old life but, I was still tempted. Every Monday for months I went to bible study. EVERY single Friday and Saturday I spent the night with Nikki so that when the text popped up on my phone, “Hey party and my house bring whoever” I could say, “sorry I can’t go.” She could literally ask me to go to Walmart to get gas and I would go. Haha no joke. An accountability partner isn’t your best friend who sits comfortably next to you and your sin. It is someone who cares more about your relationship with Jesus than having someone to sit with at lunch while talking about cute boys or girls. What exactly does it look like to let someone be your accountability partner? You give someone permission to call you out, to say your slipping into old ways. You don’t let pride come in, you let God chisel away anything that doesn’t look like Him, always have a teachable spirit, and be honest with your convictions.

I looked forward to bible study so much because it was my only church. I was known, prayed for, and could ask any question knowing it would be answered with truth and love.  There is just something about being with your brothers and sisters in Christ that make your relationship with Jesus stronger than you can imagine.

READ JAMES 5:16

READ ECCLESIASTES 4:9-12

I believe surrounding yourself with TRUE Christian followers can make or break your walk with Jesus. When you put yourself in that position you are signing up for God to mold and shape you into his image. Students, you become the man or women God is calling you to be when you say, “let’s do this together, I am allowing you to see my mess and love me through it.” I challenge YOU to get connected to a bible study and get someone older and wiser to keep you accountable.
