LIVING BEYOND YOUR COMFORT ZONE

 Zach Vertz

When I was seven years old my mom took me to swimming lessons. Now I was a stud all right. As soon as I stepped foot into the park all the fine 6 and 7-year-old girls flocked around me, or maybe that was just in my head. Now #tbh I was a little mama's boy so when the lifeguard tried to put me into the water I clung onto her legs (my comfort zone) for dear life and wouldn’t let go. Don’t judge me, I’m sensitive. The lifeguard had to pry my little fingers off of her because I was so scared. I cried and cried as he was carrying me into the water. When I got in the water I found a new comfort zone, the side of the pool. The lifeguard then had to pry my fingers off the side of the pool. Lets just say I made this dude earn his paycheck that day. Eventually, I found out that I could trust him and that he wasn’t going to let anything happen to me. It wasn't long before he had me doggy paddling and having a great time. The lesson I learned you ask? I had to let go of my comfort zones: My mom and then the side of the pool. I had to put my trust in the lifeguard and trust him that he wouldn't let me drown. Once I let go and I put my trust in him I experienced the joy and the freedom of swimming. I never would have experienced that if I didn't get out of my comfort zone.

You see that’s how God works. God is our spiritual lifeguard. He will teach us to swim, He will teach us everything we need to know but we just need to trust Him to do so. If you want to go to new heights in your relationship with God you can’t stay where you currently are. If you want to go to the next phase you need to put your faith in God and jump in. I heard a quote once that said, “God only shows up in the deep end when you feel like you’re drowning but most people won't ever jump in the deep end so most people won't ever know what the super natural power of God is like.”

READ Isaiah 43:1-2 & Joshua 1:9

You see, these scriptures assume that you are jumping in, that’s your part. God will go before you and will help you.

Now my question to you is:

Are you going to continue to chill in your comfort zone and miss out on what God has for you? Or are you going to let go of your comfort zone and watch God do something exciting and new…perhaps miraculous?
