Who Influences You?

Haley Kelly

Did you know that the people you surround yourself with are who you’re most likely to turn out like? Depending on who you’re friends with, this can either be a good thing or a bad thing. If you are around people who don’t have good morals than it’s just garbage constantly being put in you and soon that same garbage will be coming out of you. As the saying goes, “Garbage in, garbage out.” When you surround yourself with fellow believers who are continually pursuing after Jesus, you too will find yourself doing the same. You can only go as far in your spiritual walk as the people you surround yourself with.

The bible talks about being equally yoked with other believers, we need to get plugged in and involved, and begin to create friendships that have a foundation based on Jesus. These types of friendship will bring encouragement, hope, words of wisdom, love, and ultimately they will remind you to seek more of God when the going gets tough.

Accountability is essential in your walk with Christ. It is a rough and messy process. I’m sure you’ve heard the verse, “As iron sharpens iron, so one friend sharpens another.” Not sure if you realize this or not, but iron sharpening iron does not sound like a fun thing. Most people don’t like correction. However, we all suck and could use a loving kick in the butt from a good friend here and there.

READ 2 CORINTHIANS 6:14-15

If you desire to grow in your spiritual walk, take a look at the people you hang around. Do you have close friends in your life who aren’t afraid to challenge you and keep you accountable?
