Sin. It can be fun. Horrible. Exciting. Miserable. Enticing.
Addicting. It can be something you hate so very much, yet you can’t turn away
from. It can control your life and be a battle you constantly lose. But it
doesn’t have to be. Jesus has
overcome the world! He can restore any thing and He can heal any wound. But
here’s the thing- you have to want Him to.
Sin is no joke. No matter what sin you struggle with, it’s
like a disease that consumes you. Surrendering to sin and allowing God to
restore brokenness is a conscious decision you have to make. Specifically, as a
believer, we know when we sin. We know when we feel ashamed and when we fall
short. When I reflect on my personal walk with Christ, I think of periods in my
life when sin had a tight grip on me. I think of how I would repent and ask for
forgiveness, only to find myself right back to square one. No matter what sin I
struggled with, the answer has always and will always be the same. Jesus.
Read John 5: 1-9
In this story, Jesus first asked the sick man if he wanted
to get well. Then, Jesus commanded him to get up. In verse 9 it says that
“instantly the man got well, picked up his bedroll, and started to walk.” The
man wanted Jesus to heal him; therefore he followed Jesus’ command. In the same
way, we have to want Jesus to heal us. He wants to restore us and make us
whole. We have to say yes to Him, though. We have to be willing to get up and
go.
What is your response when Jesus asks you, “Do you want to
get well?”
