Scars: They’re neat. Some are
big. Some are small. Some are extremely
noticeable, others you need a microscope.
When you rub your finger across some you can feel exactly where the
wound happened. Others, however, feel
very smooth like nothing ever took place.
Everyone’s are different. The one thing all scars have in common is
this: they tell a story. I love scars
for that very reason. Scars tell a story
of the wound that took place. The neat
thing about scars though is that they only appear once the wound has been
healed. Dictionary.com defines scar like
this- a mark left by a healed wound, sore, or burn.
So, what’s the big deal about scars? How does this relate to Jesus,
Nikki? Well, I’m glad you asked.
I believe this very same thing is true with the wounds and scars on our
hearts. It is safe to say that all of us
have experienced some crappy stuff in this life. We’ve experienced heartache, loss, tragedy,
brokenness, etc. and each time we’ve experienced these things, they have
created wounds on our hearts. Deep
wounds, big wounds, small wounds, all different types of wounds, but each wound
in desperate need of healing. Once
healed if we allow God into those hurtful places, that wound becomes a
scar. A scar that tells a story that
gives God glory.
Whenever I was 13 years old my brother passed away in a house fire at
the age of 20. I was angry at God and it
took Him quite some time to heal that wound on my heart. However, once He did, that scar allowed many
people to know of God’s faithfulness in my life even through my brother’s
death. One example is a few years after
he passed away, a man that went to my church lost his son to a drug
overdose. After the funeral, the father
wanted to talk to me. He wanted to know
how I made it through my brother’s death.
He wanted to know how I could still have joy. He wanted to be able to have the hope that I
did and know that he was going to be okay.
READ PSALM 147:3 2 CORINTHIANS
1:3-4
God will never waste your pain.
Your wounds, once healed, will be able to paint a beautiful picture for
someone else of God’s faithfulness and He will receive much glory. You will also be able to comfort someone in a
way that you would not have been able to if had you not experienced that
wound. As kids, whenever we would fall
down or hurt ourselves somehow, we would go around saying, “I have a boo boo”
or “look at my boo boo”. We were proud
of our wounds and our scars because they told a neat story. Well, the neatest story of them all is how
faithful the Creator of the world is to one by one heal your wounds. Be bold.
Tell your story. And allow your
scars to tell a story that will give God glory.
