Chances are, you have shouted for some sporting event. Just the other day, I yelled from excitement after a Messi, World Cup, game winning goal. The next person I saw, I told them about this amazing goal I had seen. I talked about how Messi was the best soccer player in the world. I talked to my little brother about this amazing play he had made.
For the next few days, I kept thinking about how important this goal was for Argentina. It was in in my thoughts often. The next game Argentina played, I watched it, filled with great excitement for what Messi was going to do next. During the match, all of my focus was on the match. I wasn’t thinking about what I was going to do later, I wasn't talking to my friends, and I wasn’t just sitting there. I was excited, I was pumped, I was eager to see what would happen next, and my heart was beating quickly. He scored another game winner! I was jumping up and down, fisting pumping, and whatever else I did in the moment of pure joy.
READ Psalms 96
If we can get excited about sports, why can’t we get excited about the creator of the universe? We are all guilty of it, so don’t pretend like you worship wholly, with your entire being. The truth is, everything I just talked about with soccer is how we need to treat worship. We need to come away from worship with such excitement that we are telling everyone about the glory and awesomeness of God! I want you to go back and read the top section about soccer, but instead use it as a picture of worship.
Pastor Cummings from Atlanta challenged us to go “all in” while worshiping. Who cares what people think: “Give to the Lord the glory he deserves!” How is
it that we can worship a sports star, but we can’t truly worship the holiness of our Father? I am gonna be straight with you—quit messing around during worship, quit thinking about other things, and quit reading words off of a screen. Let the Holy Spirit fill you up and worship with your heart. Worship like you mean it. Worship the God who delivered YOU from death. “Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods.”
