JUST DO IT

Zach Vertz

Have you ever seen that person during worship with his snapback turned backwards, pants at his knees, hands in his pockets while in worship because he’s “too cool” to worship God? Well that used to be me. Yes, I know it’s hard to believe seeing how not cool I am now but I used to have my swag at 100, whatever that means. Don’t hate appreciate. But, yes, I was too cool to raise up my hands in worship to the God who saved my soul, who delivered me from my sin, who took all God’s wrath upon Himself for ME. I “thought” I was too cool to worship like everyone else, so I just kept my hands in my pockets and maybe lip-synced a few of my favorite lines of a couple songs. It was all about me. I always saw all these people during worship service worshiping God doing “weird” things, like raising their hands like they’re trying to ask the worship leader a question, some sitting on the ground, some jumping around doing the “Stanky Legg” LOL, some pointing up to the roof, some putting their hands in the position of a referee when he says, “Touchdown!” at a football game. While I thought it was “weird”, I wanted to experience what they were experiencing. I remember one time my dad expressed to me that he wished I could have the freedom to raise up my hands in worship. Through much prayer and then God leading me to Verve, I slowly was being freed from my “too cool” attitude and began worshipping my Creator! I began worshiping Him because of all He has done for me. These days I’m on the front lines of praising Jesus; I could care less about what others think of me during worship. It’s so freeing to praise Him! Just Do it!

READ 1 Chronicles 16:23-31

I just want to encourage you to worship God with everything! Once you understand who you are apart from Him and all He has done for you, there’s nothing that can stop you from giving Him all of you in worship. Make worship a lifestyle. Worship in your car; worship in your room; worship Him always! It’s one of the most fulfilling experiences you will ever enjoy!

One last thing, if you don’t like worshipping God, I’d rethink if you want to go to heaven because that’s all we’re going to be doing in heaven.
