Some of you guys may or may not know Dumisai McMilian, for those of you who
do not know him, he is my boyfriend, and has been for two years now. Dumisai is honestly a blessing sent from God and I love him very much, but it hasn’t always been that way due to my stubbornness in the beginning of our relationship and relationship lows, although long story short it was and is through the grace, discipline, and goodness of the father that we are where we are today. Speaking of where we are today, Dumisai and I have the hopes of being engaged and married one day; this is not just by our hopes alone, but by the blessing of the father. I want you at this moment to image something for me, image you have been giving your future wife/ husband – praise God -, and the Lord has blessed you alls relationship tremendously, from the act that both of you love Jesus with ALL that you are to the bond that you guys share and the Lord has given his blessing for you guys to be wed.
Now, this was the story of me and Dumisai’s life. The times came, and we decided, “ok, let’s make a move”, so he asked for his parents blessing first. Dumisai approaches his parents around Christmas just to get a NO, although keep this in mind, one of his parents is not a believer and the other does not live a committed life with the Lord. This left me completely shut down and embittered. Shut down because I thought us taking this leap of faith was a part of God’s great plan. I also felt embittered because one of his parents said something that really hurt me at the time. That day one of his parents went to visit his grandma, and there was a girl about my age over at her house (and to my knowledge she was attractive). So that night after Dumisai asked for their blessing one of his parents made a comment that Dumisai should try to talk to this other girl and not settle just yet because he was too young, and there was still plenty of ladies out there.
This broke my entire being in half and left me dry in my faith; I was so hurt and frustrated with God and Dumisai’s parents, I didn’t understand what was going on. I thought we were pursuing God’s will, I thought everything was perfect. Perfection was right, but it wasn‘t going to be by my doing.
READ NAHUM 1:3
Here’s the point—God is all knowing and loving, and as I mentioned earlier there is goodness to the Father that is displayed in his grace and discipline towards us. I didn’t see it then, but God’s great and perfect plan was still being played out in my so called “chaos”, it was in these moments I prayed the hardest and cried the hardest to the Father; I probably had to yell out to him at least 1.1 billion times during this season, although it was also in these moments I learned to lean on him entirely for my strength. God is bigger than we could ever imagine. I love Nahum 1:3. My favorite part is God’s way of whirlwind and storm, life is not always the nice summer sun with a breeze. Instead life consists of its storms and whirlwinds, but hold on to the FACT that the almighty not only comes in that way, but he comes to make a way.
This week where is your storm? And is God working to make a way for you?
