IMMANUEL (GOD WITH US)

Zach Vertz

I remember when I was younger going on an Adventure Tour to Inner Space Cavern. My family and I were taking a vacation and we were all very excited. It was the kind of vacation when life-long family memories are made. Once we got to the Inner Space Cavern we signed up for a cave tour. We had a tour guide with a lantern to lead the way before us. Touring the cave as a young boy was awesome! At one point, our tour guide shut off his lantern to show us how dark the cave really was.

I remember it was so dark that you literally couldn’t see your hand right in front of your face! This was a darkness that I have never experienced before. It wasn’t long before the guide re-lit his lantern and led us out of the cave. It scared me to think, as we were being led out, that we would have been in total darkness, completely and utterly helpless without our guide and his lantern to show us the way out of there! He truly was our “guiding light.”

That is exactly why God gave us His word. “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” In other words, the Bible shines light upon the circumstances that we find ourselves in. It gives us insight and wisdom to help us navigate through this world of darkness. Without His word, we would be fumbling around with no hope. He is, Immanuel, “God With Us”, to show us the way when we find ourselves in the dark and don’t know what to do.

READ DEUTERONOMY 31:6

“When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.” -Corrie Ten Boon

You see, when you gave your life to Christ you got on the train, you put your life in the hands of the train’s engineer. All though there will be twists and turns and it will get dark at times you must trust that the engineer will get you to your destination safely.
