IT'S OKAY NOT TO BE OKAY

Nikki Hixson

When God saved me 8 years ago, no one told me there would come a day when I would want to give up. No one ever pulled me aside and said, “Hey Nikki, by the way, there will probably come a time during your journey with Jesus when you’re just going to want to be done with this thing called life. You’re going to be tired. You’re going to be weary. You’re not going to understand what is going on around you or what God is doing. You’re going to feel like you’re alone. And you are going to want to quit.” No one ever told me that. Why? Probably because we, as Christians, have believed the lie that once you give your life to Jesus, you’re never supposed to feel any pain or discomfort. When you become a Christian, everything just all of a sudden starts to go exactly the way you want it to and life is full of only sunflowers and rainbows, right?

Wrong. Although the sunflower and rainbow life sounds nice, the problem is- it’s not reality. Things will not always go your way and unfortunately you will experience pain and heartache in this life. And, although no one ever told me this, leaving me to find out for myself.... There will come a time when you will have days, weeks, or maybe even months of just not being okay. There will be moments when you just want to be done; when you have come to the end of yourself. The good news? That is exactly where God wanted you all along. Finally, you’re not relying on anything but Him. Finally, the only thing that keeps you going is choosing to trust that somehow, someway all this is going to make sense in the end. Choosing to trust that God will never waste your pain. And He doesn’t. He always proves Himself faithful.

So, whether this is you right now, or will be you in the near future- be encouraged brother and sister, you’re exactly where God wants you. He wants you at the end of yourself so that you will finally only be relying on Him and His resources. And in this season of feeling alone, broken, and being done, remember- it’s okay to not be okay. God will meet you in your pain. And as He grows you, He will teach you to be content because you know that God is big and He can make even really bad things work out for your good and His glory.
