Have you ever had a habit that you knew wasn’t good for you, but you kept doing it anyway, because you were used to it? One of my worst habits is procrastinating, especially with school. To give you an idea of how horrible I am at this, I am currently writing this devotional the morning AFTER Hadley told us leaders they are due... See what I mean? After pulling an all-nighter writing a paper or studying for a big test, then feeling miserable the next morning, I always tell myself the same thing; “If I were to just do a little bit each day, I won’t ever have to pull an all-nighter like this again”. But guess what happens next time? I keep on going back to the method of studying that I know will leave me feeling miserable in the end.
As followers of Christ, it is so easy to forget or become numb to the reality of
our lives now. We often make excuses saying “we’ll get serious about following Christ at some time on the future, when we aren’t so busy.” If that is seriously our attitude, I question if we’ve truly made Christ our Lord and Savior. The reality is, when we submit our lives to Christ, it should change us. Completely. We
are no longer servants of ourselves, but of God. And it is incredibly rewarding living our lives with our future in mind; Living in God’s presence forever. If we have this hope, why do we keep on going back to living the way we used to be? Because it’s familiar. It’s what we are used to. I think it’s about time to get out of our comfort zones, and live our lives as transformed followers of Christ.

I love the way the New Living Translation says this... “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” At VERVE, we spend our summers intentionally teaching discipleship: Getting deeper and drawing closer to Christ. What better time than NOW to get serious, to get deeper, to transform the way we think?
I challenge you to start with these devotionals. Take them seriously and find something in every devotional that you can apply to your life. Surround yourself with friends who will build you up, not tear you down. These are ways you can begin to live your life transformed, not looking back.
