STOP LICKIN’ THE POO

Lindsay Moreau

A situation that I have seen repeatedly with teen girls is the classic “returning to the crappy boyfriend even though he treats her terribly” act. I truly had never understood this dynamic, until I allowed myself to be that girl in a small way when I was in high school. I think that often times, young women (or even young men) will return to their highly dysfunctional, dramatic, pathetic, and slightly disturbing relationship because they either do not want to be alone or that is what they are familiar with. Some of us are so desperate to be loved that we will stay with someone who treats us horribly just so that we can be “in a relationship”. Others of us have become so accustomed to being treated awfully, that we are comfortable and familiar in that, so we return to it for fear of the unknown. This cycle is harmful, exhausting, and completely unnecessary, yet it continues to be done.

READ GALATIANS 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 26:11, “As a dog returns to its’ vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness.” When we can begin to truly grasp how safe and secure we are in the hands of the Lord, we can then let go of our past, of our struggles, of our insecurity, and of our sin. He loves us so incredibly much and has a beautiful plan for our lives. Don’t return to the poo, guys. OH, and I love you.
