Growing up as a kid, I loved fire. Lets be honest, I still
do, but for the sake of my dignity, lets use an example from when I was young.
Fire excited me! From making it, to seeing stuff get torched, to hearing the
sizzle of pouring water on it to put it out when I was done.
When I was around 12 years old, I was in the typical place
my mom could find me. In the backyard around the fire pit, playing with
fireworks and burning/blowing up action heroes. As much fun as I had, I
would have to limit the amount of fire and smoke so that the neighbors wouldn’t
end up calling the fire department. So I had gotten my pyro fix for the day and had a bunch of
burned stuff I needed to dispose of. So where is the typical place you put
trash? In the big green trashcans, duh! Well the night went on peacefully until
our family heard a loud banging on the door! My first reaction as a man barged
into the living room was that we were all getting kidnapped. LOL. That was
until I heard “The garage is on fire!” Uh oh. We ran out back to see a blazing
fire engulfing both trashcans and then I heard the sirens. “Oh man,” I thought
to myself, I really blew it this time. Fortunately the only casualties were the
trashcans themselves!
After a talking to by my parents, I had learned my lesson. I
would be much more careful around fire to avoid another fiasco like this!
READ 1 CORINTHIANS 13:11
All too often, it takes a disaster happening for us to
change our ways and turn back to God. This is a sign of an immature believer.
God calls us to be wise and use good judgment. To be mature and grow up! These
qualities are developed through time spent in the Word, praying, and putting
what we learn in church to action. If you want to be mature and leave the baby
stuff behind, commit yourself to pursuing God everyday. An easy way to start
this is by reading these devotionals everyday. The choice is yours, how will
you respond?
