ALL OF THE ABOVE

By Nia Moreau

Have you ever taken a multiple choice personality test before? Was one of the options ”indifferent”? At the beginning of most assessments you take it will prompt you to answer truthfully, and without much hesitation so that you can truly be represented. It also says to avoid choosing the vague option of indifferent if you can. By definition indifferent means this:

"marked by impartiality/unbiased/that does not matter one way or the other/ of no importance or value one way or the other."

Well, your girl is notorious for choosing the option of indifferent on these things, and without fail, on most personality assessments I take I am given the results that land me somewhere right in the middle. I’m introverted, but not too much, I’m also heavily extroverted. I’m a thinker, but also can be emotional, etc, etc. Needless to say, it can get kind of old falling the middle, because I can’t pick a stinking absolute answer on things like that! It would really help me out if I could! I’d be better at handling my strengths and weaknesses for sure!

So, the example of my(buzzfeed) personality test problem may be a little funny, it can actually relate to the Lord, you know why? Sometimes we are like this when it comes to our faith. Whether out of ignorance or true indifference, we choose to fall somewhere in the middle on a lot of things. Things that the bible has made clear are absolute, definite, sure and need to be trusted. Sometimes it’s because we are afraid we’ll offend somebody for thinking differently than them. Sometimes our indifference comes from the fact that we’re not confident in what we know, so rather than feeling stupid, we just act as though our opinion is non existent. Or sometimes indifference happens because we truly don’t care. We have grown cold to the true grace we’ve been given so freely and treat it almost like it’s expected! That’s a scary place to be.

READ MATTHEW 24:12-14

Let’s be the ones who endure to the end!

The last few weeks of this series at Verve we have talked about immaturity, growing up in your knowledge of Godly things. Week 2 we talked about ignorance, which as I said up there can lead to indifference, which is just a lack of knowledge. Find out for yourself what Jesus says in scripture and what the Holy Spirit is speaking to you throughout your day. Don’t just rely on Hadley to show you things, look for yourself! Then week 3 Justin Bennett really broke down the importance of resisting isolation, that faith blossoms in community and how important it is to pursue Godly relationships. All of these things should help us now to be fully prepared to meet indifference head on in our own lives! This week I encourage you to pray for someone you know, that you are not sure is a Christian. With them, ask if there’s anything you can pray for, and than do it right there with them on the spot if you can! You know the power of the gospel, and this generation (whether they know it or not) is looking for those who have something to believe in. Are firm in their stance and are not indifferent, just being tossed around with whatever is trendy. Your faith will really stand out to those around you if you reject indifference!
