I don’t think we will fully understand the
importance in interceding for others until we need others to intercede for us.
I realized this a few nights ago when I was having trouble sleeping. While
lying in bed my mind started to wonder to so many things other than sleeping. I
quickly became frustrated because I couldn’t fall asleep. I began to pray about
it but it seemed like no matter how hard I tried to pray, my mind kept
wondering. It was about 1:30 in the morning when I decided to text my bffl-who
is also a night owl- MaKaela Loney. I let her know that I was having trouble
sleeping, and asked her to pray and intercede for me so that I would finally
get some rest. She responded and said she was praying for me at that moment.
I’m not kidding when I tell you that a few
minutes after I read her message I fell asleep! It may seem like something
small, but how cool is it that when we intercede for others, God hears our
prayer as well as sees our desire to come alongside our brother or sister in
Christ and pray for them.
What’s even better than praying for sleep is
when we begin to take time to pray for our friends who don’t know Jesus. How
does this look exactly? Well first, we have to be intentional about praying for
these friends. You can be intentional by setting an alarm on your phone or
watch that will go off at the same time every day. Each time you hear that
alarm go off, begin to pray for that friend or family member. Maybe even get a
group of friends to do this with you so that you will have people to hold you
accountable. Second, be specific in prayer. Third, know that there is no such
thing as too big of a prayer, or situation that God can’t work in. Prayer
changes everything.

1 Samuel 12:23
Can you think of one person in your life who
doesn’t know Jesus? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal one person to you. If you can
see their face in your mind then I would encourage you to pray for them daily
until that person comes to know the Lord.
