What is a calling? Webster’s dictionary
defines it as – a call or summons. It’s also a “church word” that often gets
used to describe what God is calling or wanting you to do, in reference to
life, career, or ministry.
Throughout the bible we can see
examples of God calling people. For example, in Exodus God calls Moses to free
his people from the Pharaoh of Egypt. Another example is when he calls David to
defeat Goliath and become King in 1 Samuel. In every example there is one
factor I noticed that seems to be the same. When God calls, he calls you to go,
or move, or shift. In order to answer his call we must be okay with leaving
behind where we are! For example, what if when God called David to go and fight
Goliath, David responded and said “Nah that’s ok God I’m comfortable here with
these sheep…” He wouldn’t have defeated Goliath and would have never become the
King!
God calls many people in many different
ways. Sometimes he calls you to be the head pastor of a huge church, and
sometimes he simply calls you to make PB&J sandwiches and pass them out to
the less fortunate. No matter what his calling is on your life, you have to be
willing to move, change, shift, or leave where you are! As for those of you who
are thinking, ‘well that’s all great but
I haven’t felt God call me to something yet…’ I can tell you, yes He has!!
He calls everyone who has become a believer in Jesus!
Read
Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus tells his disciples to GO
out into the whole earth and make disciples. This means we are all called to
get up, take action, go out into the world in your everyday life and reflect
Christ wherever God calls you to go!
