Some of you may not know this
about me, but growing up, my family was a foster family. Long story short, we
did a lot of missions in Mexico, primarily in an orphanage and a Mexican
prison. There is a huge different between a Mexican and an American prison. One
of the main differences is that if a woman has a child while in prison, the
child STAYS in prison with her. This was the case of a woman we ministered to
there who was trying to move into an American prison (she was an American
citizen). She basically asked us to take her 6-month old daughter while she
moved. So we became a foster family, and took care of this little girl and her
two sisters for two whole years. Their mother got better, then worse, then
better, then much worse, and we were ready and willing to adopt these three
girls as our own. We prayed and prayed and prayed, and truly believed this was
God’s plan for our family. After a meeting with lawyers, CPS, and the mother of
the three girls, my parents came home in tears. We had to break the news to
these girls (who were truly part of our family now) that they had to leave our
home and go live with their mom. It broke us as a family emotionally. And even
worse, the mother ran away, accusing us of trying to steal the girls. I felt
abandoned and betrayed by God. There has never been a time in my life where I
cried harder than those weeks. That was about 8 years ago, and I still think
about them often.
I know first hand, that it is HARD to trust God in difficult times,
especially when you truly feel like you are in His will. This must have been
the same way Abraham and Sarah felt. They were promised by God to be the
“father of many nations”, and they couldn’t even bear one child. But let me
tell you an important truth. God always
keeps His promises, even when the situation seems impossible. We often times we
try to tell God how to do things, basically saying that we are god and He is
not.
“Those
who know Your name will trust in You, for You, LORD, have never forsaken those
who seek You.”
Psalm 9:10
If our God created the universe,
knows every star by name, knows the number of hairs on the head of every person
in existence, and has counted every grain of sand on every seashore, how much
more does He have ultimate control of your situation? I want to challenge you
to trust God, even when it’s
difficult. Pursue Him and seek His face as it says in this Psalm. He promises
never to forsake you.
