For those of you who don’t
know, last April I got my very first car. It was a 2003 Buick Regal
Supercharged. If you don’t know what I’m talking about then just imagine a
small black car that a granny would drive (except mine goes a lot faster).
After a couple of weeks I finally decided to name my car Don. Now I know what
you’re all thinking, “Who names a car
Don?!” The reason I chose this name was because the first part of my
license plate has the letters DDN and if you take a couple of steps back it
kind of looks like DON. I quickly grew to really loving Don. He was able to
handle any hill, field, bump, or curb.
Three days before Christmas
I noticed my front end was shaking a lot worse than usual. It had always shook
a little, but I figured it was normal since it’s older and all cars have some
sort of small issue. However, I knew that this type of shaking wasn’t normal.
The next day I went to Firestone to see if I needed to have my tires balanced.
After waiting a few minutes, the mechanic came inside and told me that the
problem wasn’t my tires. He began to explain that I had a big issue with both
of the front axle shafts and also this thing called a motor mount. Basically,
it was very unsafe to drive. If I were to keep driving my car then my wheel
could separate from my tires at any point in time while on the road.
I realized that just like
the problem with my car, all too often we treat sin the same way. We think that
all cars aren’t perfect and so small problems-or small sins in our lives-are
okay. We brush it off because it’s not a huge problem. Eventually our life
starts shaking uncontrollably and we are quickly able to realize that something
is definitely not okay.
READ PSALM 40:11-17
Before
it gets really bad-before the wheel separates from the tire and causes us to
wreck-the Holy Spirit gives us a heart check. We can either keep ignoring the
symptoms and wreck our lives or we can give it up to our trusty mechanic
(Jesus) and allow Him to help fix us. Is there any sin left undealt with in
your life that you need to confess and let Jesus work on?
