I think one of the sweetest things a young lady can ever be told is, “That’s my girl!” There is such a sweet sense of pride, love, and ownership in that phrase. Growing up, I absolutely lived for the moments I would hear my daddy say that to me. Whether it was doing well in a dance recital, throwing the baseball farther than the first time, or dancing (terribly) to a Veggietales song, I would fill up with emotion at the sound of those three words.
Now being married, that has not changed. Any time Spencer shows his love and pride for me, it gives me a sense of purpose and belonging. Something that I have realized, though, is that Jesus is literally chanting and cheering those words for me daily. Not only has He called me to a life of honoring Him, but there are specific things He has called me to do: in my everyday life and for my future.
I will never forget the moment I knew He was calling me to ministry with teenage girls. It was like my heart was exploding with love for these beautiful women and I felt a sense of being at home and security there. Now knowing that, I have been able to motivate myself in getting my degree, knowing that I am one day closer to working and operating in my calling. That is a good stinkin’ feeling! As you grow closer to the Lord, He will begin to prepare your heart to hear what He has for you. As you put your trust in Him, He will assure you of His goodness and of His plan.
READ JEREMIAH 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Trust Him with your heart. His Spirit working and living in you will far surpass the emotion of “that’s my girl” from your loved ones. He is proud of you, He is for you, and He wants you to let go of that control. OH, and I love you.
