Every time I go to the gym, I find it extremely amusing to watch the workout buffs. Not only
do I find it entertaining to watch their behavior, but I’ve found they like to watch themselves even more than I do. Some of the guys are so into themselves—constantly flexing, huffing and puffing, and making odd noises that are sure to make anyone look their way (I think that is a strategy).
I was observing a training session a few weeks ago where one of these proud gym rats was trying to learn some new techniques from their trainer. What I saw beginning to happen was a dynamic of proud-student-rejecting-the teacher-and-making-a-fool-of- himself. It was then that I realized something: humans do not like to feel weak. Humans often cannot handle being taught, learning new things, and failing at those things. The thing is, though, that Christ calls us to be weak, so that He can be strong for us. He calls us to be a beginner, to be teachable, and to understand that we are only human. He assured us that there would be trials, tribulation, struggles, and persecution, and that we could not do it on our own. When we allow the Lord to work in and through us, people WILL reject us. Something I encourage you to remember, though, is that they are not rejecting YOU, they are rejecting Who you represent. Jesus assured us that standing up for who He is, living our lives to honor Him, and staying firm in our beliefs will undoubtedly attract persecution and judgment. He also assures us that great is our reward when we allow ourselves to be the vessel from which He flows.
READ 2 CORINTHIANS 12:10
“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Allow Him to be strong for you. Remember that you are not on this earth to please men, but to please the Father. The hope, peace, and security He gives is far better than any temporary worldly pleasures. OH, and I love you.
