One of the toughest questions I’ve ever been asked about my faith is, “Why would God allow for bad things to happen to good people?” My first response would be that there are no good people; we are all sinners in need of Christ’s redemption. But for someone who doesn’t follow Christ, or even believe in Christ, this is a pretty loaded question.
This past Wednesday, we talked about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (if Lindsay and I have three boys, that’s what I’m naming them. Don’t tell her). They were dedicated followers of Christ, and when the king of the land, king Nebuchadnezzar (if we have four kids.... we’ll call him Nezzy for short) ordered that everyone in the city bow down to his gods, these three friends refused, because their God was the only King they would worship. The king ordered that they be thrown into a fiery furnace, and their response hits me every time. It is such a huge testament to their faith, it makes me check my own heart every time. You can read it for yourself in DANIEL 3:14-18, but the basic summary of their response was, “Our God can save us and He will save us. But even if He doesn’t, we will not worship your gods.” But even if He doesn’t. Man... talk about trust in God.

It is difficult sometimes to understand circumstances around us. And no, I can’t explain to you why they happen. But God has a plan, and I put my trust in it. This passage in Proverbs says to “not depend on your own understanding.” There is no possible way our small minds could begin to comprehend the things of God. But I believe and trust that when we go to Heaven and spend eternity with Him, there will be so many things revealed to us, we will look back at why we worried and questioned so much. Put your faith in God, and He will stand by you. Trust in Him, and He will direct your path.
