“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” –Ephesians 2:10
“God can’t use me because I’m too weak.”
“God can’t use me because I don’t write well.”
“God can’t use me because I don’t have much money.”
“God can’t use me because I grew up in a divorced home.” “God can’t use me because I’ve messed up too many times.” “God can’t use me because I don’t speak well.”
“God can’t use me because_________”,
Fill in the blank with the excuse you’ve used; we’ve all done it. And let me just clear the water for a second and I’m just going to say it: Yes, you suck. You, without Jesus, are no good. Actually, Jesus puts it this way—“Apart from Me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Remembering that you suck will constantly remind you of your need for Jesus. It’s healthy. If you thought you had it all together, you would never run to Jesus because you would never think you needed Him—but you do. A LOT.
For those of you who have asked Jesus to be the Lord of your life, you now have a purpose. A big purpose. You are partnered with the God of the universe. Your mission is simple: know Jesus and make Him known... wherever you are, wherever you go.
Some of you, God will call into the medical field. Others, He will call to do missions overseas. Some, He may call to professional sports. Some of you will pursue teaching; others will be police officers, fire fighters, or choose to fight for our country, etc. The places and possibilities each of you will go are limitless. However, one thing remains the same for every person, regardless of where you are—your mission. Know Jesus and make Him known. What if in whatever field God calls you to, you made that your mission field? Since when are mission trips only done in other cities, states, and countries? Between your feet, wherever you are, let that be your mission field. God has work for you to do now, that He planned for you before you were formed in your mother’s womb. He will use you in the workplace that you will one day be in, but also today. Seek it out. There are divine appointments waiting for you everywhere you go. Go on a “mission trip” today. Do work.
