PRAY FOR YOUR FRIENDS

Spencer Moreau

Today is not as much a devotional as it is a challenge. I am going to get really honest here. Praying for others on a daily basis is something I am not good at, and am working to fix. I used to keep prayer journals in my Bible case growing up, or I used to have a note on my phone that included ways I could pray for others, but I was never consistent. Praying for others is one of the most meaningful ways you can share God’s love. Unfortunately in today’s church society, the phrase “I will be praying for you” is usually just a phrase to end a conversation with an uncomfortable person. There is no intention of actually spending time in genuine prayer on that person’s behalf.

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another AND PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
James 5:16

There is real power in prayer. I want to give you a challenge. Open a note on your phone right now and write a title at the top, “PRAYER JOURNAL.” Now text a few friends in your life and simply ask them, “How can I be praying for you today?” Copy and paste their answer into the note you created, and don’t wait, but right now, go find a quiet place, and spend about 5 minutes genuinely praying for those people. Do it tomorrow, and the next day, and every day from now on. Next time you see them in person, follow up with them and ask them specifically how those things are going. They will be amazed that you remembered and actually prayed for them. Guys, be seriously committed to this. Hold each other accountable and pursue prayer. This is just another way that you can run after Christ.
