Yes, No, or Wait

By Zach Vertz

#TBT to when I was just a young stud growing up in the Vertz home. Every time I needed anything I always knew who to go to, my mom. Go ahead and say it, yes I was a mommas boy, hater! I would ask her for all these things; from Hot Wheels to WWE action figures to let me get a girlfriend (who said 6 year olds are too young to date?!), and she would always reply to me with one of these three answers, Yes, No or Wait. I always loved hearing the, “yes”, hated hearing the “no” and the “wait” meant; I would have to be patient which I hated lol. When I was young I never truly understood though. Why can’t I have this or that? But now as I have grown up and have matured in my faith I can see that this is how God answers our prayers many times. He answers, yes sometimes, no sometimes and says wait sometimes, which was his response to me when I asked for bae but Romans 8:28 promises that, “he works ALL things together for the good of those who love him…” We don’t get to pick and choose which request he will answer but we are commanded to be steadfast in prayer and to leave the results up to him. Looking back I thank God I didn’t get some things I asked for because I can see it would have been a disaster if I got what I prayed for. We are mere humans, and we “think” we know best but we don’t. Trust God. Trust his timing and trust his plan for you.

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:17

This verse is so simple. Its one of the shortest in the Bible, yet it is probably one of the most meaningful. I know that most of us grew up learning to pray at certain times. Before we eat, before we go to bed, and maybe a few other times throughout the day, but that's about it. Prayer is such an important aspect to connecting with God and having him be a part of our lives. Therefore pray constantly. Pray in your car. Pray while your walking down the hallway on your way to your next class. Pray about everything that comes to your mind. Just simply talk with God. Make it a habit and a lifestyle and you will be blown away by what God does in your life.
